Illustration Friday: The 80s

Dude, the 80s were like so Totally Rad

Yay this is my first drawing for Illustration Friday of all time! I was born in 1985 so the 80's for me was basically just a continuous cycle of eating, pooping and watching freaky cartoons. Usually all at the same time. I think I remember eating bubblegum icecream.. wearing my blue overalls with the duck on the front, a giant red beaded necklace hanging from my neck to my feet, watching Ferris Buellers Day Off.... I think.. or maybe that was just a beautiful dream.....

Borfday

Today Is My Birthday

Yes it is yes it is.
It was a lovely day, mostly spent with Kristy and my mom doing shopping type things. AND I didnt have to take the cart back to that house where the shopping carts live at the supermarket! I made delicious fettucini alfredo for supper.. there was snow! I got a nice red leather bound sketchbook. My mom got me a measuring cup because they measure by weight instead of by cups in Britain, and is making a book full of recipes for me to take, which is wonderful and sweet.
I also, got a visa refusal letter for my birthday........ All I can say is that I wish it had come tomorrow, orrr not at all. Absolute Fucking Bullshit. Heres some things I was playing around with before my future was crushed by a fuckwit beaurocrat! I forgot how fun pencil crayons are.. and look you can make your cartoons dance. I'm going to bed

Life or Death

I am experiencing a situation requiring a choice between equally desirable alternatives, prodigious in both difficulty and perplexity. It is to you I turn, my befriended and/or kin, please ease my burden by helping me solve this confounding riddle. I need you to be open and honest, I can handle it, just tell me...
WHICH CAKE
IS THE BEST CAKE!??!?!??!!!!111

After googling "the best cake" and perusing the Martha Stewart website for an hour or so now, and its come down to these contenders.

1. The Traditional Cake eaten in celebration my birth is the Black Forest. An easy favourite, loved generation after generation, but lo, behold, it has evolved further over time. There is its edgier cousin, the Black Forest Brownie cake; less traditional, equally appealing to eyes and tongue. And now I find Martha's Haunted Black Forest Cake, ingredients for which include espresso whipped cream, black cherry filling, kirsch syrup and chocolate ganache.

2. Seeing as its January, which is supposedly a winter month, and that I love coconuts, I thought maybe a coconut cake would be nice. Or maybe, a pineapple coconut cake.. with cherries.. and a Calvin and Hobbs type kid pissing HAPPY BIRTHDAY KARA on the top. Or cute little ghosties!

3. But who
would eat some crap coconut cake when they can eat something called Doris's Velvet Chocolate Cake, which looks so dense its imploding in on itself. Serving suggestion is to cut very small pieces and eat without wearing any pants.

4. This one might seem a bit lame but Ive never had one of these as a birthday cake before and I know they are delicious. The classic yellow cake. HOMEMADE of course, I dont approve of boxes.. especially ones produced by "Niger Mines"?? Maybe thats some sort of internet joke I dont get, but its the only decent picture of a yellow cake I could get.

5. The not-so-classic yellow cake. YAY Ducks!!

6. CHEESECAKE!
Chocolate or plain or peach or cherry or turtle.. I found this nice looking no bake cheesecake with raspberries, but it only serves four. The last one is blood orange cheesecake made with ricotta and heavy whipping cream so its lighter.. so you can fit more in your body!

7. An icecream cake also tickles my fancy.. does it do anything to yours
?

8. This is a cake made of stacked crepes, with a layer of nougat in between each, covered in dark chocolate and decorated with candied hazelnuts. Damn.

I have to stop now, I cant spend any more time looking at cake. Ive started to rock back and forth in my chair with lust as it is. So there is my top 8. Please leave a comment and tell me which one I should make, I am also open to suggestions! If no one helps me narrow it down I will be forced to make and eat them all! ALL CAKES WILL BE THE BEST CAKE! WAHAHAHAHAHAHA

NO UR GAY

Chuckle chuckle chuckle.. so, pretty good day by me was had .. today.. By the grace of any god still paying attention I managed to get up before noon. Ive had over 5 hours of daylight in me, thats almost excess sunshine. Sunshine, on my shoulders, makes me happy... sunshine in my eyes can make me cryyyy.. sunshine on the water looks so lovely, sunshine always makes my high.
I woke up to my mahhhh standing in my bedroom doorway shouting questions like "IS THIS YOUR BLUE SOCK? IS THIS YOUR BLACK SOCK?? DOES THIS BLACK SOCK GO WITH THIS OTHER BLACK SOCK?
IS THIS YOUR PAIR OF BLACK SOCKS? No they look like Bobbys Ill give them to him. WHERE DO YOU WANT THIS BLUE SOCK??" then I went back to sleep.. and had this reoccuring dream where I'm a pregnant asian race car driver and a serial killer was chasing me through a subdivision with a set of Crayola Mini Stampers™ that actually were magic and could open portals into other dimensions and he had me trapped in a mattress factory but I managed to steal his Shamrock stamper and ended up in a bookstore in Seattle in the section about animal photography and I looked at a couple of books before I woke up.
Stomped around the house.. had tea (PG Tips with 2 sugars and approximately 700 milks) followed by a day of art and driving with Monsieur Blundon, with a soupson of catatonia inducing dindins at the greasy spoon by my house Ive been meaning to try for weeks, The 60's Diner or something.. I dont know if you can call brand new 60s themed diners "greasy spoons".. My fork was greasy though, and now the greasy is in my tumatumtum.. came home to fall asleep on the sheepskin rug in the living room-- the thing has magical powers or something and now Im drinking a lovely cup of tea (loose leaf jasmine from teaopia, with honey which is lovely enough) reading how my visa has been delivered, woop! No sketches today.

Todays Random Specialness

I have done absolutely fuck all today! Yay! Here is a doodle and some links to stuff I was looking at today.

A Recipe for a Jellyroll Cake
  • 5 large eggs separated
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • confectioner's sugar
Beat egg whites in a large bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually beat in ¼ cup sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form. In a separate bowl, beat egg yolks, vanilla and remaining 1/4 cup sugar. Continue beating until thick, about 6 minutes. Mix in flour just until blended. Gently fold egg yolk mixture into beaten egg whites. Spread the batter in the prepared pan. Bake for about 12 minutes or until cake top springs back when lightly touched.

To remove cake from pan and cool, sift confectioner's sugar over a clean kitchen towel. Loosen the edges of the cake from the sides of the pan with a small knife. Invert cake onto the prepared towel and carefully peel off the parchment paper. Starting from one short edge, roll up the cake and the towel together, like a jelly roll. Cool completely on a wire rack. After cooling, unroll cake and spread with pastry cream, jams, lemon curd or whichever filling suits your fancy. Roll up from the short side, without the towel this time and transfer, seam side down, to a serving platter. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar or frost.

Movie Posters

Its 3:39am. Using vintage wallpaper nabbed from here I am making movie posters for movies that would have been made for my brother and sister had they been famous in the 1930s. Bobbys is a jaunty picture about a blind coachman and all the follies he befalls until his timely death involving a head on carriage collision. Kristys is set in the Yukon during the goldrush, she plays a yeti who befriends a lonely surveyor during one of the harshest winters on record. Musical scores for each to follow.

Its 2007. Woah D00D. In less than a week I will be twenty two. In less than three weeks Ill be standing in London, England needing a shower and a nap and a strawberry cornettOoOOOo exciting!
Its because of the whole Moving to England thing Ive decided to start actually typing words and crap to put on this green monstrosity (latin rootword originating in roman trading capital Monsterus Citius 9th century B.C) So people (my mom) can see what Ive been up to across the ocean without spending huge amounts of money on long distance telephone calls. Really I just hate phones. OH ALSO I bought my cousins tablet so, I hope you (the masses) are ready for tens of dozens of poorly executed digidoodles to accompany my run on sentences which say very little but are made of as many birtish slang words as I can squeeze in twat wanker ring me on the blower.. chap.. anyway, to answer the question on your mind right now, yes I am embarrassed by myself. COME BACK SOON!

P.S - "Tummy" is a hilarious word

P.P.S - what language would "Elektricni Orgazam i austrijski Plasticube" be from and what would it mean..... ?

P.P.P.P.P.P.S - haha peepee.. below is my first tablet drawing woohoo!*
